Edward Hawkins Design
In 1955, the Ewing family was so intriguied with the Arapahoe Acres community Edward Hawkins was building/designing in Denver that they hired him to design their home in Lafayette. The result is a magnificent example of mid-century modern architecture.
The modest 1560 square foot ranch rests on a large lot and though it is surrounded by 90s era houses (my guess is that the Ewings sold the major portion of their land to developers), the home does not feel out of place and its historical significance is obvious. The interior brick walls are unpainted, the light fixtures are period and the bathrooms appear to be largely untouched. The kitchen flooring has been modified but the cabinets still retain that unmistakable 50s styling.
While the garage was added many years after the initial construction, it was incorporated with consideration to the era's modern design and perfectly compliments the architecture.
