Nixon-Jones Architecture

"The home of Dr. and Mrs. Roy Wolfe on 22nd Street is a good example of the elegance possible in contemporary design. Architect Tom Nixon, of the firm Nixon and Jones and Associates, has created a dwelling of distinguished beauty in the formal sense, but has not overlooked efficient planning.

While the designer's extensive use of glass, natural redwood siding and stone represent a trend in modern architecture, Nixon has been especially successful in using these materials to combine the practical with the artistic. The natural charm of the setting, which includes a number of large trees beside the running waters of Skunk Creek, made possible an outdoor living area in keeping with the house and its attractive interior" (The Daily Camera, June 13, 1962).

Former First Christian Church

 Architects Thomas Nixon and Lincoln Jones are best known for their design of the former First Christian Church, whose jutting, triangular sanctuary marks the entrance to Boulder from U.S. 36. Built in 1961, the former church, whose congregation moved to Lafayette in 2010, was modeled in the "Usonian" style developed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Additionally, the structure served as the exterior church scene where Jeannie and Randall are married in the Jack Nicholson movie, About Schmidt.

Last year, the Boulder City Council voted unanimously to approve a landmark designation for the property. The landmark designation means that the exterior of the building cannot be changed without review by the city.
